In order to improve security and user experience, we are migrating our User Accounts.
Accounts will be based on email addresses, instead of usernames. Each user will need to have a unique email address (email aliases are allowed).
This new service will enable additional features such as:
- Email verification
- Forgot password
- Google Single Sign On
After logging in (via the username & password method), all users will be directed to re-sign up via Single Sign On, or email & password. Once you sign up, your previous accounts will be automatically linked to the new one. There will be no data loss or change of permissions/brands.
Single User account
1. Users will log in as usual, using their username & password.
2. User who have not migrated will see a Migration prompt, you need to click on the button to proceed.
3. Users will be redirected to a separate login page.
On this page, you may choose to Sign In with their Google account. You may also choose to Sign up using an email address & password.
4. Email verification
Users need to retrieve a 6 digit code from their email to confirm their account. Once you have done so, you land directly on the dashboard and your account remains exactly the same.
Multiple user accounts
Case: The individual has multiple user accounts. Each of these accounts is linked to separate brands.
Because each migrated account must be linked to a single, unique email address, there are two possible methods to migrate.
For this example, assume there are 2 user accounts, account_1, and account_2
Method 1: Merge accounts (Recommended)
- Log in with the username and password for account_1.
- Go through the migration flow as illustrated above, landing on the Locad dashboard at the end.
- Log out of your account.
- Next, log in with the username and password for account_2
- On the new Sign Up screen, click on "Already have an account? Sign in"
- Then sign in using the same email address (or SSO account) as before
- Then verify the email again.
- The user is now given the option to Merge their new account into their existing account
Doing so will result in a single account that has access to all the brands that both account_1 and account_2 had. No data will be lost.
Method 2: Create another email account
- Log in with the username and password for account_1.
- Go through the migration flow as illustrated above, landing on the Locad dashboard at the end.
- Log out of your account.
- Next, log in with the username and password for account_2
- On the new Sign Up/Sign In screen, use a different email account (or email alias) from before
- Then verify the new email.
- The user lands on the dashboard with their new account
The user now has 2 accounts linked to 2 separate email addresses.
Shared user account
Case: Several users have been sharing a single Locad account
For example, employee A and employee B work at brand Z. They both log in to Locad using the username "team_brand_z".
Because each account must now be linked to a single email address, it becomes difficult for multiple users to share.
There are two solutions to this.
Method 1: Link one account, then create more users (Recommended)
- Log in with username and password for team_brand_z
- Go through the migration flow as illustrated above, using the email address "employee_a@brandz.com"
- On the Locad dashboard, navigate to Settings -> Account Settings -> Brand settings
- If team_brand_z is a brand_admin, they can scroll down and view the Invite User section. If team_brand_z is not a brand_admin, they would need to ask a brand admin to log in and do the next step.
- On the Invite User section, they can invite other users, for example, "employee_b@brandz.com"
- Employee B would then receive an invitation in their email to Sign up and create a new account, which would also be able to access the same brand
- There is no limit on the number of users for any given brand, so each user can have their own individual account
Method 2: Use shared email and password (not recommended)
- Login with the username and password for team_brand_z
- Go through the migration flow. IMPORTANT: do NOT use the "Continue with Google" button.
- Instead, sign up with an email address and password, e.g. "team_brand_z@brandz.com"
- After migration, you can share that email address and password with your teammates
- Other users would click on "SSO or Email Login", then log in with email address and password
Troubleshooting
1. An account with the given email already exists.
The user already signed up before. Click on the "Already have an account? Sign in" button and Sign In instead
